James M. Jacobson, Jr. has more than 30 years of experience in the real estate industry, with deep expertise in sourcing and developing properties within the commercial office market. Through SALUS, Mr. Jacobson directs a unique investment program that provides individuals and institutional investors with access to commercial real estate properties that are leased by agencies of the federal government.
Mr. Jacobson has extensive background in the acquisition, financing and development of GSA properties and commercial real estate throughout the United States. He oversees SALUS’ full scope of investment activities, which includes managing all existing investment partnerships, sourcing and acquiring properties, securing financing and working closely with development partners, equity partners and senior lenders.
For the past fourteen years, Mr. Jacobson has focused exclusively on acquiring and managing properties leased to federal agencies. Prior to forming SALUS, Mr. Jacobson founded Capstone Property Investments, LLC, which also owns and operates properties leased to the federal government. Under his direction, a SALUS affiliate acquired a 50% interest in Capstone Property Investments in 2007.
Previously, Mr. Jacobson served as Managing Director of a privately held family real estate investment enterprise. In this role, he was responsible for the acquisition and disposition of properties and oversight of value-added renovations and reconstructions of office properties and private estates in Southern California. Mr. Jacobson also spent 10 years in venture capital, focused primarily on the biotechnology sector.
Mr. Jacobson is a member of numerous real estate industry organizations, including the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (“NCREIF”), the Federal Real Property Association (“FRPA”), the Institute of Real Estate Management (“IREM”), the Building Owners & Managers Association (“BOMA”) and the Federal Developer Association (“FDA”). He is also a member of the International Assoc. of Financial Engineers (www.iafe.org) and the Society for Judgment and Decision Making (www.SJDM.org).
Throughout his career, Mr. Jacobson has served as a Director on the Board of various organizations including Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Council, American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science, American Technion Institute of Technology, Technion 2000 (Founder, past President), and the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club (President). He is a former Trustee of Providence Day School and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Foundation. Mr. Jacobson studied international business at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management. He resides in Charlotte, N.C. with his two children.
